Birth of New Nations

Independence: India & Pakistan 75 years later

Come celebrate the 75th anniversary of the time when the Indian subcontinent broke the grip of colonial rule and regions started to create nations! India and Pakistan along with Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The movement for independence from colonialism lasted for most of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was achieved due to the cohesion among the peoples of the many regions, religions, ethnicities and even languages to fight for the unified cause of freedom.

The leaders of the movement spent years in jail and many lives were lost. They all had a common vision of tolerance, nonviolence and secularism with protection of minorities and brotherhood between neighbors. The vision for peace for humanity is one that all of us must remember.

Let us join hands for unity and peace. Listen to the stories, poetry and songs from the region commemorating this special time in our common history.

South Asian snacks and school supplies will be distributed at the event!
