From the Temples of India to the Stages of Chicago

The Kalapriya Academy provides classical dance training in the style called Bharatanatyam. Bharatanatyam is recognized as one of India’s most rigorous and advanced classical dance forms. Kalapriya’s artistic director is an accomplished and highly trained dance instructor of Bharatanatyam in India and she has brought the same academic focus to the classes she teaches in the USA. While she provides a theoretical base for her classes, she is open to accept all who wish to learn and places them at the appropriate level based on their skills.

Registration

Registration in the academy requires an annual $75 registration fee. This fee provides the student with a practice costume and class materials for the full year. If additional costumes are needed, they may be purchased for $40.

-Children begin by learning simple rhythms and hand gestures with interesting and fun stories, as early as, age three. Our Parent and Tot class allows parents to experiment with these classes before they decide to enroll their child in a more rigorous program starting at age 5. Children work through the program with the ultimate goal of completing their arangetram, a solo dance recital symbolizing graduation.

All group classes are $25 each. The year has 45 classes as follows:

Annual Showcase: June 14, 2020

Dance is a performance art, developing poise and confidence in the children as they develop and grow in maturity. Children also learn about Indian culture, history, geography, mythology, morals, and values and their relevance today. We offer children many performance opportunities through the year and all students perform in the annual showcase, featuring both academy and school-based students.
